Good news and bad news for H Street streetcar

The bad news, as everyone who cares probably already knows, is that the opening of the H Street streetcar car has been delayed from 2012 to 2013 due to technical difficulties regarding the needed rail yards and power system.

The good news is that the tracks and many of the stations are essentially complete. Also, by all accounts Mayor Gray is still strongly committed to the project, politically and financially.

Here are some photos of the progress as of last weekend. The first two show the station at H and 8th Street, where the tracks and stations are next to the sidewalk, while the bottom two show the station at the starburst intersection, where they’re in the median.

8th Street station, which appears largely complete. Note the raised platform.

Starburst intersection station, obviously still incomplete.
