Metro service to Mid-City is about to get a whole lot better. WMATA announced yesterday that next January it will begin running off-peak Yellow line trains through Columbia Heights to Fort Totten, effectively doubling midday service in Washington’s densest collection of neighborhoods. Additionally, off-peak Red line trains that currently end at Grosvenor will continue all the way to Shady Grove. Montgomery County doesn’t yet need the added service as much as Mid-City, but the deal was politically necessary.

BeyondDC can’t wait for the day we’ll be able to take a Yellow train to the new Target department store in Columbia Heights.
